ESL Classes for Adults

The Tenafly Public Library offers group tutoring and conversation classes. Classes are currently full, but call Rafat Ispahany at 201-568-8680 to put your name on the waiting list.

Book Groups & Literary Clubs for Adults

Afternoon Book Club: 2nd Thursdays at 1:30 pm
(meets monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • Copies of the current book can usually be picked up at the service desk the week of the previous month's meeting.

  • On hiatus in July and August.

 

Book Talks!: 3rd Thursdays at 7:00 pm
(meets quarterly - find the next meeting date)

  • Registration is not required.

  • In this group, members share great book suggestions with each other.

  • This is a great club for readers who are looking for new authors or genres or simply like to talk about books.

Cookbook Club: 2nd Tuesdays at 7:00 pm
(meets bi-monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • Members check out a cookbook from the Service Desk prior to the meeting. 

  • Each member makes one of the recipes in the book and brings samples for other members to taste.​

Great Book Discussion Group: 1st Thursdays at 7:30 pm
(meets monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • Members read and discuss portions of classic and contemporary literature. 

  • Check with one of our reference librarians for information on current readings.

Poetry Circle: 2nd Thursdays at 7:00 pm
(meets monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • Registration is not required.

  • Members read their own poetry or works of their favorite poets.

  • Attendees are welcome to just listen and enjoy.

Foreign Policy Discussion Group: 1st Mondays at 7:30 pm
(meets monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • Registration is not required. 

  • This group belongs to the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)  which is a national, grassroots foreign policy discussion program that was founded in 1918.  

  • Monthly topics are selected from annual Great Decisions Briefing Book which is published by the FPA.

  • On hiatus in July and August.

Lectures and Workshops

  • Special one-time only events like, Meal Planning for Good Nutrition, Introduction to Chinese Caligraphy, and the Manhattan Short Film Festival take place each month.

Movie Matinee: 3rd Wednesdays at 1:00 pm
(monthly showing - find the next movie)

  • Registration is not required. 

  • Shown on our big screen, a monthly matinee might include an artsy foreign film, a classic hollywood film or a new to DVD Hollywood blockbuster.
